There are more links to sites dealing with the Grand Canyon then you can shake a stick at (although I'm not sure why anyone would want to be shaking sticks). By far the best overall extensive site is the Grand Canyon Explorer. You should also visit the Official Park Website for up to the minute information.
HIKING THE CANYON IS NOT FOR EVERYONE! Many people - even experienced hikers - run into trouble on some of these trails. Please educate your mind and prepare your body before attempting Grand Canyon Hiking!
There are many sites which have stories & experiences from individuals on their particular trip. These might prove useful to see how average people and hikers react to these incredibly beautiful but (mostly) difficult & strenuous hikes.
YOU MUST HAVE A PERMIT FOR ANY AND ALL BACKPACKING TRIPS (you don't need them for day hikes or stays at Phantom Ranch). You'll need to PLAN AHEAD as there is usually a 2 - 4 month waiting list. You also need to know exactly what trails & what campgrounds you plan to be staying at (limited same day permits are available pending cancellations. You must be on the line at the back country office before it opens at 8am - the line forms very early & being on line does not guarantee a permit).
There is NO CAMPING allowed outside the campgrounds.
